Matej Andraz
Vogrincic is artist in residence at the Arts Centre in October/November
2002. During his residency he is exhibiting Moon Plain, a
documentation of a major site-specific work, at the SoFA Gallery
and creating a new public art work for the Arts Centre.
His new artwork,
Port, involves transforming one of the Arts Centre's grass
quadrangles and filling the space with water and dozens of origami
boats. The boats are made by schoolchildren in workshops with the
artist at Hornby Primary and Hammersley Park Schools, and painted
in vibrant colours by the artist, offsetting the historic beauty
of the surrounding Gothic Revival architecture.
The exhibition
Moon Plain documents Vogrincic's installation in the Australian
desert, where he cast 1,800 watering cans out of plaster and arranged
them over an area the size of a football field. This installation
is documented through large-scale colour photographs of the work
and replicas of the plaster watering cans.
